30-Kisses Fic: Fai/Kurogane

Ahha! Found the rest of my half of the [livejournal.com profile] 30_kisses fics that Chelle-sama and I wrote ages back. They're all short and I'm not going to bother to look up the theme number. Just the four for today, but more at a later date, I'm sure.

Kiss

Fai tore his mouth away from Kurogane’s. “The world is singing,” he gasped.

“Yup,” Kurogane muttered, diving in for another kiss that made Fai feel like his bones were melting.

“I’ve never kissed anybody before,” he said when Kurogane stopped to breathe. “Can we do this again? Often?”

Kurogane blinked and then smiled lazily. “Sure,” he said. “I’ve only kissed Sôma before and we were eight at the time. I could use the practice.”

The look in Kurogane’s eyes made Fai feel dizzy. “Oh, good,” he murmured, stretching up into one more kiss. “Me too.”

Goodnight
It wasn’t more than a quiet, exhausted, half-asleep mutter. It wasn’t anything special. Just two words, ‘goodnight, Fai’, as Kurogane left the room. But Syaoran and Sakura stared and for some reason Fai felt as though he had just been kissed in public.

Candy

In all the time they’d been traveling together, Kurogane had never hurt him. Why should he? Fai was there to be a team mate, a helper, a friend - the same as they were all supposed to be for each other. And, from the start, he and Kurogane had made a good team. Grace and strength, agility and immobility.

But as the worlds passed by the chance grew that Kurogane could hurt him. Physically, the chance had always been there…but emotionally… It would be deliberate, maybe, careless, most likely. Fai knew that he wasn’t the delicate type, whatever his looks, but Kurogane, like Chi, had slipped past the armor he wore.

Fai had thought that when the time came it would be a thoughtless word or action. He figured it would be something that would hurt him due to the strange, strongly growing feelings between them that Kurogane adroitly ignored.

But it wasn’t. And it wasn’t. When the time came, it was a careful, cautious gesture that hurt him because it hurt Kurogane so.

When the time came, Kurogane was bowed offering a handful of hard candy and chocolate kisses to a ragged, timid street girl who, in another world, could have been a queen…or a princess. He’d stood and marched on, his face a careful mask, leaving the child behind them for the last time as they walked into the next world waiting.

He’d spared Fai a single glance as they walked away and that look, the grief upon his face, had cut him to the bone.

The Road Home

The path to Fai’s home world was gone, obliterated, but he didn’t mind. A home world was not ‘home’. The way to Kurogane’s world was unknown, but it was probably long and convoluted and dangerous. But Kurogane’s world wasn’t home either, not yet.

“Why are you frowning?”

“I’m thinking about home. What the old one was like, what the new one might be like, finding the way…”

“You think too much.”

Fai’s road home was only a handbreadth in length, beginning and ending with interlacing fingers and palms touching gently in a sort of promise-kiss.
