He lifts one hand. "See ya around, Oh-chan," he says.
And startles when Ohno grabs the back of his shirt. "I've wanted to kiss you since the first time I saw you. Playing your game at the shop. I thought you were beautiful and I wanted to kiss you."
For a second Nino's mind swoops dizzingly. "That's not going to help us break up here," he says, staring at his front door.
"I thought you should know," Ohno tells him implacably. "You should know. My heart pounds and I want to see you all the time and I keep hoping you'll do something so that we can kiss. Every time we hang out, I feel it in my gut. That I'm with you and you're with me. We've been dating. We've been dating for months. That's what you should know."
Shit, Nino thought. "Well, I'm not going to kiss you goodbye or anything stupidly romantic. Let's face it, if we kiss we're going to want to keep doing it. So." He took a deep breath and let it out again, feeling the way his shoulders rose and fell. He turned around and grinned at Ohno. Stuck his hand out and heartily shook the one that Ohno automatically put into is. "Best of luck, Oh-chan. Thanks for all the hard work and all that other stuff."
He might have, he realized suddenly, underestimated Ohno Satoshi. So gentle and spaced-out and funny and sweet and a mama's boy and a ocean-loving fish-junkie...yeah, he might have missed a few things because none of that was in evidence on Ohno Satoshi's face. He was sharp and present, focused and it was a little overwhelming, that power and confidence. "We're not breaking up," Ohno told him. "I don't know what we're going to do but--" his phone rings, cutting him off.
Nino kind of loves whoever is on the other end.
"Ah, Jun-kun," Ohno says. He pauses. "Am I on speaker? Oh. Hi, Sho-kun, Aiba-chan." Another pause. It's a long one. Nino would go to his door but Ohno's got a vice-like grip on his hand. "Yeah, he's sensible like that," Ohno says.
Nino looks skyward. "Yeah, your Sakurai and I hit it off when I agreed that you were an idiot who didn't realize how bad this looked."
Ohno looks back at him. Still crackling with that dangerous energy. "Probably." And then. "No. And I have to go right now because he's trying to do the right thing." He hangs up and Nino stares at him a little. "They liked you," Ohno tells him.
"Great. We're breaking up."
"Nope."
"Look, if I say we're breaking up, then we're breaking up," Nino protested. "I--this is stupid. This is the stupidest thing I've ever said."
Ohno's edges seem to fade under his smile. "I have drama filming soon. Come see me in Tokyo."
"Hell no," Nino snaps. "I'm dumping you."
"Let's have dinner with your mom and Kazue," Ohno says.
Nino watches Ohno Satoshi walk past him and up to the door and inside and... "Damn it, Oh-chan." He stalks after him and slams the door shut.
Ohno pushes him against it and the next thing Nino knows is the there-and-gone touch of Ohno's lips against his own. His jaw drops and his knees turn to water and
"Kazunari?" his mom calls out.
Shit. "I brought my scandal home, Ma," Nino calls out.
Ohno laughs and Nino figures they can break up after dinner. Maybe publicly so that Ohno can't cheat this time.
