Q&A

"So how is it? The atmosphere between MatsuJun and Arashi? Obviously good with Sakurai-san, yes, but the rest?"

The interviewer smiles sweetly and eagerly at Jun and he smiles back just to buy a little time.

Interviewers—almost all of them—like to say that he and Sho are alike. This is true only insomuch as they both have dignity unlike the rest of Arashi. Well. Aiba has manners when he's not excited (but generally at that point he's also asleep) and Nino is not actually human but rather some sort of demented imp with a default setting of 'evil little bastard'. Captain would maybe have dignity if he'd wake up and notice that he's attached to Nino and move away instead of snuggling closer.

So of course there are times when he is left shrieking at the others while Sho pats him to comfort him (or, conversely, he pats Sho while Sho vents their joint frustration on the idiots who thought that having a whipped cream fight in the lobby of Johnny & Associates with all the juniors they could lay their hands on was a good idea) but mostly it isn't like that. Mostly, he and Sho are right there with them, laughing like morons like the rest of them. Sho is more likely to space out (like Captain) and less likely to touch (unlike Nino, or Aiba). Jun likes to get hugs from Captain or the occasional Nino-snuggle or the nigh-unto-constant-these-days Super!Special!AibaHold (which, thanks to Nino, he calls 'the Tentacle') and he has a harder time relaxing, shutting off the part of him that thinks of work.

The plain truth is that everybody is very different from everybody else and they are just as alike, too, in different ways. They fit together because of this.

But of course, he can't say this because then he will have to explain and Aiba will make flowcharts on the spot and Captain will pull out some wickedly embarrassing story about one of them (or worse, ALL of them and Jun can't live through another retelling of 'The Day We Had a Really Non-Gay Hickey-Giving Contest and My Mom Walked In and Took Pictures').

So Jun smiles at the interviewer and tucks his hair back (Aiba had told him that it made girls swoon in a very literal sense) and then steeples his fingers. "Well, ah…it's very good. Off camera, of course, is different from on."

He valiantly ignores the way Nino snickers and focuses on Sho's encouraging smile.

"So even if it looks like MatsuJun-san is angry…" the interviewer leads and Jun wonders bitterly why the interview woman doesn't pester Nino, who is sitting in Captain's lap. And most importantly, never needs much to work with to cause trouble.

"He still loves us!" Nino confirms with a fox-like smile. "If he yells, later, he will come to us and apologize and then we all get hugs. Captain, let me up and I'll demonstrate. MatsuJun hugs are Very Special."

Jun gives Captain a look that the camera will not read as a death-stare but still says 'if you let Nino out of your lap and he touches me I will cheerfully decorate this studio with untold amounts of viscera and gore'.

Wonder of wonders, Captain actually seems to be paying attention for once. "But I like Nino," he says plaintively.

Nino melts back against him, head lolling on Captain's shoulder. His eyes are slitted with pleasure. Or evil. Because the next thing to happen is that Aiba bounces to his feet. "No, no, you have to actually work hard to catch MatsuJun!" Aiba says. "Like this!"

Jun is too busy bracing himself to see what it is that Sho does to Aiba. All he knows is a thumping sound and the blissful, melting feeling of utter relief that he does not have to endure the Tentacle while on national television. "Aiba-chan, are you all right?" There is general fuss for a few moments and Aiba gets up without a scratch and says he's absolutely fine (though he isn't because Jun knows that both he and Sho have pinched Aiba in a manner that says 'sit down, you chimp').

The interviewer looks around a little, looking a bit lost, and for a moment Jun thinks that she and Captain are going to get into a staring-at-each-other-blankly contest. Then she blinks and looks at him and smiles. "So, that's good!" she chirps. "Friendly with everyone!"

He smiles and nods. "That's right, that's right," he agrees. Beside him, Sho shifts, crossing one leg over the other so that their shoes bump together lightly. It's as close as they're going to get to high-fiving each other over dodging a bullet.

The interviewer nods and giggles.

And then turns to Sho. "And for Sakurai-san?" she says. "How is it?"

Very discreetly, Jun stretches and pats Sho on the back; already planning the best way to take Nino down without it looking like he is preventing him from molesting Sho on-air.

**************

This is the direct result of me trying to slow my EPIC and TOTAL demise at the hands of my sister.

And after Sho dodges the bullet, I imagine that Jun (and Sho) would skillfully redirect the conversation somehow because they know what would happen if everybody else got asked. Namely, Aiba saying that he loves EVERYBODY and Ohno saying 'huh' and Nino declaring his intense loathing for all of them—with the possible exception of Captain.

*ponders* I might throw another thing into this entry later if I'm stil feeling lazy.
