So I have a TON of stuff I should be writing. So what do I do? That's right, I wrote something for 'Uta no Oniisan'. On my behalf, that song from episode two was completely stuck in my head until I wrote this. So, uh...spoilers through episode two? (And for those of you who care, the song lyrics can be found here. I'm surprised at how much I was able to understand while listening to it. Random Japanese is random!)
Dance Dance Revolution
"You're pretty worthless," Michiru said, looking out at the city spreading out around the TV Fuuji building.
Kenta leaned back against the retaining wall and looked at the metal air-exchange pipes poking up out of the concrete surface. "Yeah," he said at last, flicking the ash from his cigarette and bringing it back to his mouth.
"But that's why you're the only one who can help, so I guess we have to rely on you." The soles of Michiru's shoes made a soft sweeping noise as she turned and Kenta looked up at her again. She was looking down at him, her head in a scientific tilt as she studied him. "Because we're pretty worthless, too."
"Eh?" Kenta thought at times that he didn't know if didn't get Michiru because she was a little kid or if it was because she was a girl and girls in general were confusing.
Michiru sighed. "Kids are pretty worthless," she said repeated. "They're only good for being told what to do, right? No matter what choices we make, it's only from the options that parents give us, so in the end it's useless. No matter what a kid chooses, it's only something that the parents want anyhow. That's why kids have a rebellious stage and that's why when a kid turns twenty, they never call home again."
She was a weird kid, Kenta thought, letting the smoke out of his lungs in a rush. "What do you know about turning twenty?" he asked her.
"I know that when I turn twenty I'm supposed to think guys like that weird-ass prince are handsome," she said, making a face. "Aren't you going to tell me not to swear?" she asked when he didn't say anything.
Kenta shrugged. "What do I care if you swear? It's not MY mouth that's gonna get washed out with soap. Besides, it's true; that guy is seriously the weird-ass type." Considering, Kenta held the cigarette out to her. "Smoke?"
She ignored him. "You may be a NEET—"
"Oi! I am not a NEET!"
"—and you're really lazy, too. You're just like a kid."
"I don't have to listen to this." Kenta stubbed out his cigarette and pushed himself to his feet. "Man, why does everybody lecture me?" he muttered.
"Because you still act like a kid. You still do things only as much as you have to do and you still do rebellious things," Michiru said, picking up the hat that Kenta had dropped when he'd first got to the roof. She held it against her, her solemn eyes on him as Kenta pulled up the bright blue and red straps of his overalls, shrugging his arms back into his costume. "But that's why you're the one we kids can count on. Because you act like that but you're not a kid. You can say no to any choice you want and make your own options to pick and people will listen. When you do rebellious things, people will take it seriously. So if you choose to rebel against that guy downstairs, people will notice. And if you do everything you can so that you can become somebody we kids want to follow, we will. Between you and that guy, kids will definitely choose you."
Kenta took the hat and raked a hand through his hair so that the hat wouldn't push it into his face when he put it on. "I thought it was all up to the parents," he said, ducking his head a little as he put the hat on. "All those mamas like that guy."
From underneath the brim as he settled the hat firmly on his head, Kenta could see the way Michiru rolled her eyes. "If I say why that doesn't matter then you're only going to do this half-assed like always."
"Hey!" Kenta followed Michiru down into the building without thinking. "Anybody would want to get rid of that prince," he said, "He's the worst. But… just what makes you think that I want to be somebody kids follow around?" he asked as they reached the landing.
Michiru turned around and set her back to the door. The smile on her face teased out the last bits of childhood roundness left there. "Oh, star that shines in the sky," she sang in a strong, clear voice. "While everyone is soundly sleeping…" She pressed back and the door clicked and swung open behind her.
"The toys burst out of their box, they dance and go Cha! Cha! Cha!" a chorus of excited voices finished.
Kenta looked at the hallway full of kids. "Man," he sighed, stepping into the swarm.
"The toys go cha! cha! cha! The toys go cha! cha! cha! Cha! cha! cha! The toys go cha! cha! cha!" the kids sang. Michiru had moved to the other end of the hall and was clapping, leading the kids in the direction of the soundstage.
"Who's leading this rebellion?" he called to her, prying two different sets of sticky hands off of his pant legs. Keeping those little hands in his own he jerked his hand and began to lead the column in the direction of the dressing rooms. Half way there they started the song over again and Kenta began ignoring the strange and disapproving looks he was getting as they made their way along. Clapping in time, he did a quick spin that had always looked cool and sexy when he was in his Giselle clothes. From the way the kids laughed he didn't think it looked that way anymore but the kids were spinning, too, and while it didn't look cool it definitely didn't look bad either.
"The lamb says 'baa baa'," Michiru sang, skipping past him.
"The kittens say 'mew'!" the kids shouted.
Kenta looked up and saw Himuro standing in the open door of 'Let's Sing Everyone!'s dressing rooms. He crouched down on level with the kids and pointed at him as the piglets said their thing and then spun out of the crouch, catching Michiru's high-five as he and the kids paraded into the studio.
(And then Kenta says how their rebellion song is lame and Mamoru says that he can write them a new one. And eventually they end up with a kid-friendly-rock theme song. Or something.)
I...I'm afraid I'm starting to think of Michiru as the Gon to Kenta's Daisuke. SEND HELP.
Ah! And! I found that picture of Jun and Ohno that I mentioned! It is not 'groping' so much as it is 'sometimes Circe is a total squishy for Jun touching his bandmates'. But there you are, then.

VS Arashi is FULL of boys touching each other. I LOVE that show.

Yessss, VS Arashi touching. \o/ Although I must admit I've always thought VS is by far their creepiest show. Nino being athletic will never not make me suspect CGI.

Date: 2009-01-28 12:21 am (UTC)This is so cute. Michiru still may be my favorite character of the show, though she hasn't done much yet. But I hope, especially when Kenta starts progressing up the ladder to Uta no Oniisan, that she plays a greater role and gets to boss him around even more. ♥
