Many things

First: Voting is going on over at
ohmiya. I will say that I'm not winning and neither am I close to winning. This doesn't bother me because some of the entries are really amazing and it makes me really want to work harder when I write.
Second: a;sdfjsdjf;lsfj ♥♥♥♥♥
ruisetsuna did art for 'Heart-shaped'. It is AMAZING. It makes me inexpressibly happy. *________*
Third: Why is writing such a struggle these days? I gave myself a twenty minute time-limit today just to get something DONE and took a prompt off a list at
31_days.
"Maybe he's just tired and afraid he'll drop her," Aiba whispered with a shrug.
"Are you kidding?" Jun hissed back. "This is Sho."
"'I'm pretty sure that Yuuji has pry-bar scars on his butt," Ohno added.
"I still can't believe your wife let you get away with that," Nino said absently.
"I can't believe yours let you get away with 'Taka'," Jun said, waving him off. "Can we pay attention to THIS? Since it's serious."
"But it took a long time," Aiba said stubbornly. "He's probably really tired."
Nino broke away from the little group and crossed the hospital nursery to Sho's side. "Sho-chan," he said quietly. "Everybody is freaking out because you won't pick up the baby."
Sho looked up from his daughter's bassinet. "Can I?" he asked.
Nino frowned. "Of course you can—when have you ever asked if you could pick up a baby? I don't think any of us even touched Ma-chan until she was four years old, thanks to you. And I still say that the only reason you let go was because Aiba dangled Ken-kun in front of you."
Sho nodded, but didn't move. With a slightly irritated click of his tongue, Nino reached into the bassinet. "Don't." Sho's voice alone would have stopped him if the vice-like grip of his hands at Nino's wrists hadn't already. "Don't," he repeated. He sounded raw and broken. He sounded utterly numb with resignation. "Please."
"Sho?" Nino asked.
"I'll wake up," he said, looking pleadingly at Nino "or you'll tell me it's a mistake."
He was about to ask what Sho talking about when the very simple truth of it hit him. Sho had been the last of them to marry, his wedding only two years behind them. Sho was, and had always been, the favorite uncle of all of their children, doting and sweet and always there.
Jun's daughter was nearly twelve, Aiba's youngest son already three.
Nino ignored the soft sound of pain that Sho made as he slid his hands under the warm, living weight of Sho's child and lifted her from the little bed. "She's yours," he said firmly. "It's real this time."
"I can't," Sho whispered even as he reached out his arms for the baby Nino was pressing into them. "I can't—" he broke off as Nino let go and the sound he made deep in his chest reminded Nino of some pitiful, wounded thing. Then he was holding his child, cradling her to his chest with hands that were obviously fighting to urge to grasp and clutch. The breath he let out as the baby settled into him sounded like a sob.
Later Nino wouldn't be sure to whom he owed more gratitude: Ohno and Jun for surrounding Sho, holding him up as the first of the tears fell; or Aiba, whose arms around Nino's waist kept him steady even as Aiba announced that Sho was quite possibly going to be an even more hopeless father than Ohno, making them laugh.
If you take anything away from this post let it be this: a;lsdkfjdOMG ART. Plus, you know, there is GIRL!Aiba and Sho and some other pretty people that I don't know.

Date: 2009-04-29 11:16 am (UTC)Sho seriously needs to get married and working on those babies right now so we can watch him glow over his children. You know he'll be the retarded dad who'd whip out a photograph of his child, squealing, "LOOK LOOK HER FIRST STEPS," and the other members shriek, "WE KNOW."
... also, it was really hard voting on those drabbles w-wow.

"But these are PICTURES!" *beam**beam**beam* (He's Maes Hughes without the knives!)
PS. Your icon STILL makes me laugh every time I see it. Skulls. Honestly.

Date: 2009-04-29 10:21 pm (UTC)Sho being scared and Nino talking to him. Sho and Nino. That is... the way it would be.
Fics like this always make me wish for their happiness even more than I do usually. Thank you so much for writing.
(Did I ever tell you that I love this quirk of yours to start fics in a way it's impossible to understand what's going on and only getting the hang of it a few lines later? Because I do.)
