Nino and Machida become drinking buddies the day Ohno announces his engagement.
"Now you get it," Machida tells him.
Nino grunts into his drink in annoyance.
Machida grins at him and slings an arm around his shoulders. "Listen to me," he says with sage, drunken wisdom.
Years of being held close by other boys makes Nino curl reflexively in to Machida's embrace. "Shut up," he says. Then, "It's not like you ever had him."
Machida hugs him closer still. "Who do you think taught him how to kiss?" he asks rhetorically. "The thing is, you'll love this girl as much as he does. One day."
"Shut up," Nino sighs. But he buys the next round without any prompting and without any promises.
Erm. That's. Not quite Ohmiya? Let's try that again, okay?

"I'm going to ask her to marry me," Ohno tells Nino. There is desperation in his voice; he can hear it.
Nino looks at him with game-blank eyes. "Maybe she'll say 'no'," is what Nino says before going back to his game.
Ohno chokes on a terrible giggle and pokes Nino in the side. "I asked her if she'd say yes if I asked her," he says. "And she said yes."
"Huh," is Nino's response.
Ohno knew it was going to go badly when he told Nino. He just didn't think it'd be so bad. He curls himself around Nino on the couch. "If you were a girl," he says to the soft skin at the join of Nino's neck and shoulder, "if you were a girl I'd have asked you a long time ago."
Nino makes a small sound that Ohno knows is pain. "I'd have said 'no way'," says Nino.
"Well, of course you would have," is what Ohno says to him, hiding his face in Nino's ink-dark hair, breathing him in.

Why
It was so warm was Daiki's first thought. His second thought was 'why?'. But that was easy to answer, he thought drowsily. He was more than half under Teppei's kotatsu blanket. And there had been nabe. And so much beer.
"But why," protested Daiki's mind, "does the blanket feel so much like Ryousuuke? And smell like Hanei's hair?"
"Why would I know what Hanei's hair smells like?" Daiki asked out loud.
"Apple shampoo," said some portion of the warmth in a mumble. Which was a 'what' and not a 'why'.
Daiki propped himself up and took stock.
The clock on Teppei's DVD player read 4:03 a.m.
By the light of the little clock he could see that he, Teppei, Ryousuuke, and Hanei were in a tangled heap of limbs and lithe stretches of torso with heads poking out here and there. He pushed up a little more and saw Aki on the far side of the kotatsu, most of the blanket pulled over her shoulders.
"Oh, that's why," he answered himself before settling back down with a yawn.
"They're why," his mind whispered as he drifted back to sleep.

It becomes a weekly thing, meeting up with Machida to go drinking. Sometimes they go to different things, like out for a meal or golfing or to the video arcade. Just. Different stuff.
Sometimes they talk about Ohno and his fiancée. Then, Ohno and his wife.
"I like this. With you," Nino says one day as Machida sings V6's 'Voyager' in some dim karaoke room. He is not surprised, not really, when Machida leans down and kisses him on the mouth. It is a familiar kiss in some ways and Nino remembers from years ago Machida drunkenly telling him that he'd taught Ohno how to kiss.
It tastes a little like the past, this kiss, but more like beer and singing and the future. "I knew you were going to do that," Nino says as the kiss ends.
Machida smiles at him.
And Nino smiles back.

Ohno still snuggles with him and holds his hand.
Machida still goes out drinking with him even though Nino calls him 'Macchin' now.
And sometimes they go to Ohno's house and have dinner with his wife and his kids and each other.
"Do you boys want more beer?" Ohno's wife asks, smiling gently at them.
"No, but thank you," Ohno's voice rumbles up from underneath Nino's ear.
Nino focuses on his game of thumb-war with Machida, who is curled up to Ohno on the other side. It's kind of a retarded game because they're both using their wrong hands and it's stretched across Ohno's middle, but it's still a challenge and Nino still hates losing.
Ohno's wife laughs a little bit and Nino looks up at her sees how she looks at Ohno—like she is the luckiest woman ever (and she is, Nino knows it). She is looking at her husband in the middle of a three-boy (men now, honestly) squish-up and her expression radiates contentment and joy and fondness. Nino is blown away by just how happy he is to see her looking at them like that. He loves her, he realizes. Just as much as Ohno does, maybe. "I love you," he says.
And Machida laughs out loud at him, pinning his thumb under his own.

The whole atmosphere is just so content and angst-free, and omgomgomg Ohno's wife being darling and letting him cuddle with his boyfriends, hahahahaha. Aaaaaah ILU. The ending is perfect. ♥ ♥
