First: Happy birthday, Matsumoto Jun! There will be cake to celebrate. Because that's the new family tradition (family plus other kids, I do mean)--have cake for Arashi members' birthday.

WE LIKE CAKE, OKAY? Cake and Arashi. Don't judge.

The other part of this post is sort of for Becky.

Arashi is a cool name for a band, okay? It's awesome.

Except for the fact that if you're Japanese you're not hearing it as 'Arashi' you're hearing it as 'storm'.

And 'Storm' is a lame name for band. It is the biggest, fattest, most loser-y name for a band that you could ever come up with. Foreigner? Air Supply? Bad English? Scandal? They're all better than 'Storm'. Storm is what twelve-year-old kids name a band and think it is Badass. I'd be embarrassed to say 'my favorite band is Storm!' because it is that bad of a name. Wow, it's just awful.

Yet somehow, even knowing how terrible it is, I love that loser name. I love that my favorite band is a bunch of regular guys with an awful name that probably embarrassed the crap out of them when they were younger and cared about being 'cool'. I love that the name sounds cool to non-native speakers and LAMEASS to people who know the language and they're popular anyway. They make it WORK.

In some strange way the stupid name 'Storm' is the best and only name for this group and all the things, all the feelings they bring out in me and in every one of their fans.

I love you, Storm Arashi, despite your dumb name.

Hee! For some reason, that just made me think of Stormer from Jem and the Holograms ^^;; Stormy! Which I still liked better than Roxy or Pizazz, but there you are ^^;

Of course, if you were not afflicted with that fairly terrible cartoon, this will make no sense to you at all ^^;

Anyway, I wanted to thank you, as I am now demanding birthday cake for Jun's birthday for dinner. He's the Bpy's favorite, anyhow. He told me so yesterday, after admitting that Yabai x3 is his favorite Jun solo. This is my life, now, which is kind of awesome&hearts

LIES. JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS WAS AWESOME!

(Okay, no, it was fairly terrible, but-- my childhood--!)

We are the Misfits, our songs are better&hearts

You know, I never realized how bad it was until [livejournal.com profile] bitterbee and I checked out the entire box set from the library and watched, I don't Know, 12 episodes in a row?

It's horrifying now, what with the gender badness going on all over the place, but . . . still have a slightly sparkly warm spot in my heart for it.

Even as a child, I knew the guys on that show were dicks (which was only reinforced when I watched it again after I'd grown up) but the show had such a huge nostalgia for me that I still loved it anyway.

GIRL BANDS AND CATCHY TUNES AND AWESOMELY BAD CLOTHES, WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE? (Also, the Stingers were kind of hot. Also also, Aja was really hot.)

I don't think I could actually rewatch more than an episode at a time now, though, much less twelve, jesus.

I also love the idea of their name meaning Tempest because it's slightly more ~*artistic*~ and EVEN MORE LAME. And it's not like you can grow up out of being 16 and saddled with the lamest name ever, no, you're stuck with it for LIFE, FOREVER AND EVER.

But somehow Storm makes it work and I love them for it because... they are Storm. And they've certainly made a storm around the world happen. AND NOW I WANT CAKE. DAMMIT.

Ahahahaha, this is the BEST. Thankfully, meaning aside, "Arashi" sounds quite a bit better than "Storm". Is is still a silly name, though.

I love that your family does cake for Arashi birthdays! ♥ I need to start up a tradition like that too. Any excuse to eat cake is an excellent one in my books. Happily, today is my birthday too so I already have a cake! :D :D

Well in Japan a lot of men want to be and envy the men in 'Storm', so :D It's not the name, it's the branding. 8D

Still, sometimes Japanese names have silly meanings anyway!

Just be thankful Johnny decided to go with a Japanese kanji and didn't decide to name Arashi "Storm" in English. Because I'm sure we'd all have a ball saying "storm" with bad Japanese accents. XD
