I know, I know--I still need to update tags. But having worked nineteen days out of the last twenty-one I kind of don't care right at the moment. I am so behind on things in RL and on LJ.

For now

Links to past parts! First and second. Even though this was written after some other stuff, this is three. This is--after a jump of several months time-- four. There's a fifth that takes place after part three and before part four but I'm not sure WHERE.

THIS part takes place after four. Yes, yes. One day I shall put them in a time-line type order. For what MY promises are worth.

"Come on, I'll walk you to your car," Nino says, already starting off down the gravel path of the drive. "Seriously, it's still suspicious when you park at the shop for four hours and get caught walking back from the direction of my place. The scandal magazines will have a field day with it, won't they?"

Ohno has to jog to catch up with him, just a little. "I know that. I wasn't planning on parking there for so long. I was going to drive you home but your sister surprised me and I walked with her."

Nino snorts, "Yeah, she's like that. Never put your back to her."

"She's a lot like you," Ohno says without thinking. He gets shoved into a hedgerow for it but stumbles back out and squashes Nino into the retaining wall set on the other side of the narrow street.

They tussle all the way down the street and into the village, laughing at each other and trying to step on each other's shoes. Slapping at each other from a distance.

From a distance, Ohno thinks, there isn't anybody who would think they were more than good friends, just guys paling around with each other. Even the old village gossips and busybodies wouldn't think a thing of it. Even the paparazzi. They could almost pass for childhood friends. He throws an arm over Nino's shoulders as they reach the pet shop and his car. "Hey, Nino," he says and then stops because Nino is giving him an annoyed look.

Very carefully, Nino steps out from under his arm. "Ahh, I left the lights on in the tanks when I was trying to get away from you earlier," he says, frowning at the building. "See you around, Oh-chan," he says as he pulls out his keys and goes around back of the building.

Ohno knows a dismissal when he hears one.

He just doesn't care.

He goes around the back in time to see Nino stepping into the shop's back hall and he follows him, catching the door before it can shut and lock itself. He waits by the back door and watches Nino turn off the lights in the tanks, checking to make sure each one has the air pump still running. He realizes only when Nino turns and sees him that Nino hasn't known he followed him. "Go home, Oh-chan," Nino says tiredly.

"No," Ohno says. He feels for Nino, he really does. He wants to give Nino things that will make him happy. But he can't just leave him. He wants to see him and be near him. He wants to feel his heart racing in his chest when Nino gets close to him. He wants his hand to tingle for wondering if Nino will reach for it. He wants Nino. "Don't you want to be with me?" he asks.

It makes Nino laugh, a ragged and tattered little sound. "It doesn't work that way," he says. "Not for me and not for you either. Go home."

Ohno doesn't care how it works. He cares about the fact that he doesn't want to leave and Nino wants to be with him. "I'm going to kiss you," he tells him.

Nino flips the lights off. "Really, just go home."

"After I kiss you."

In the dark of the shop, with only the dim lights from the streetlights outside, Ohno can see the way Nino's body is tensed. "Why won't you go away?" Nino asks him. "I keep breaking up with you. Don't you know I mean it?"

The darkness makes him bold. Nobody can see them in the dark. They're alone, the only people on the island, in this lump of darkness that is a world of its own. He crosses the room and finds Nino by memory and by touch. His hand, his arm, his shoulder, his neck. He touches the side of his face. "Tell me again," he says against Nino's mouth and kisses him.

Nino's mouth doesn't move under his but Ohno already knows that Nino is stubborn. What matters more is that Nino isn't pushing him off. This is not going to be a peck on the lips like their other kiss, the one Ohno surprised him with the first time Nino told him they were breaking up. This is a kiss.

Softly, gently, Ohno moves his mouth over Nino's. Nino's lips are soft against his own and warm. Ohno tilts his head, finding a better fit, and sighs against Nino's mouth as he keeps kissing him. He can hear how harsh Nino's breathing is getting and it makes him sigh again, a deep and happy breath. Nino's mouth moves minutely and Ohno hums pleasure at him. He steps a little closer and fills his free hand with Nino's, leaning into him more and more. He has to bite back a noise of disappointment when Nino's free hand circles his wrist, tugging his hand away. But it's not really away. Just. Down. Down against the awkward, long line of Nino's neck where he can feel all the sounds that Nino isn't making. And oh. Oh.

They're kissing. Not just a brush of lips, not just Ohno pressing his lips to Nino's. They're kissing. He and Nino, kissing each other. Their mouths moving and touching and clinging. Ohno can feel his own sounds getting stopped up in his throat as he tries to keep breathing so that he doesn't have to take his mouth away from Nino's. He'd stop breathing entirely if he could, if it would help.

There's a hand on his waist suddenly, warm and shocking through his t-shirt and Ohno wants this. He wants to put his hands on Nino. Wants to feel the threadbare t-shirt Nino is wearing, wants to put his hands under it and feel the silk-warmth of Nino's skin. Wants to touch him as he kisses him, just a little. Instead he gasps out of the kiss and rests his cheek against Nino's own feverish cheek. "I want to kiss you again."

"No. That was a break-up kiss. We just broke up," Nino tells him.

Ohno ignores this. "Come visit me in Tokyo," he asks, repeating his request from a week ago.

Nino makes a sound that is almost a laugh. "No."

"I won't get to come home very often while the drama films. Come see me," Ohno says again. "I'll miss you if you don't."

"Then you'll have to miss me. We're not—" Nino breaks off and steps away and away and away again. "We're not."

"We are," Ohno corrects him. "I don't know how but we are."

Nino looks at him and Ohno knows he'd be unreadable even without the dark. "Oh-chan."

So Ohno steps back himself. "I'll be leaving first," he says.

"You do that," Nino says dryly.

Ohno turns around and gets all the way to the door before he looks back. Nino is watching him. "I want to be with you," he tells him. "I don't care if that's not the way it works for either of us."

The smile that Nino gives him is lopsided but real. "I'm still breaking up with you."

"You do that," Ohno parrots back and leaves with a smile of his own on his lips along with the lingering feeling of the way Nino kissed back.

PS. Please go check out this. But don't talk to me about it--I'm fairly sure I won't hear you over all the gay.

RE: Picture - Pretty damn gay.

RE: Everything else

This was so sweet. Like... Okay, the kissing was god-i-wish-i-still-had-someone-to-do-that-with good. I am a sucker for a good kiss scene (sexy teimz are great and all, but a good kiss? Unf.) but the way that Ohno just was not accepting 'no'... There's something about that earnest determination that gets me. "Yes, there is logic and reason over here. What is your point?" I love that Nino keeps insisting it's not going to happen and that Ohno keeps not caring. It was very heart-warming and made me smile.
